When I tell y’all that I am not good at keeping a straight face, from the bottom of my heart, I mean it. I laugh in inappropriate situations because I’m uncomfortable; I cry when I see other people cry, even if I have no idea who they are or why we are now crying together; and I absolutely, positively cannot lie to your face without bursting into fits of giggles.
Except for the ONE day that it mattered most!
Christian reached out to me around this time last year, casually mentioning that if I were around next year in the Spring he would love for me to photograph his proposal to Rachel. Of course I started freaking out, since he has been a great friend of mine since Freshmen year of college, and he and Rachel are absolutely adorable together!! I of course said yes, and then didn’t think about for almost a year.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and Christian and I are texting back and forth hammering out the details for the day of the proposal. There was a whole TEAM of people helping him, and I could tell how nervous & excited he was!! The weekend finally came, and I made the trek down to Blacksburg. Of course, nothing was going as planned and we had to change the location slightly – not a big deal, we made it work! We decided that I would be at the location pretending to taking pictures of another couple, so just in case she saw me she wouldn’t be suspicious. However, under no circumstances did I want her to see me beforehand, because I just knew I would somehow spill the beans or ruin the surprise!
So what happens? Of course they spot me and, being the awkward person I am, I tried to pretend like I didn’t see them… the couple pretending to pose for me had to tell me to turn around and go talk to them!! I later found out that Christian was making funny noises the whole time because he was freaking out – but somehow I held myself together and carried on a semi normal conversation!! Somehow, Rachel still had no idea, and I went back over to my ‘couple’ while Christian and I proceeded to make hand gestures at each other about where they should stand and when! Y’all, it was pretty priceless.
And then it happened all at once, he got down on one knee and you could see the happiness exuding from them both. She obviously said yes, tears were shed, and lots and lots of hugging occurred – I’ll let the pictures tell the rest!
Congratulations again, Christian and Rachel! You two make a beautiful couple!
