When any of my seniors are amazing enough to get up & meet me for a sunrise session, I feel an extra special need to go above & beyond to make sure their session is amazing. I have to make sure it was worth them getting out of that comfy bed at 5:00 AM! Because believe me, I feel the pull to keep hitting that snooze button and I’m not even the one having to put on makeup! (My sunrise session clients definitely do NOT see me looking my finest!) Now don’t get me wrong, I am NOT a morning person and I find zero fun in getting up while it’s still dark out – in fact, I think it is totally unnatural to get up before the sun rises. But to grab those perfect shots when the light is soft and glowing, it is so so worth it.

I typically only schedule sunrise sessions when I cannot schedule a sunset session, which is typically the case when I make the trek to Blacksburg. I schedule several portrait sessions over the course of a few days, so naturally a few will have to be in the morning – and those somehow always end up being my favorite ones!

Elaine was bubbly & bright when I met her in the morning, and I was so happy she brought along her boyfriend. Not only does it allow my seniors to feel more comfortable, but boyfriends typically become my assistant & carry all of my seniors outfit changes / cap & gown / etc!
